We make a living by what we get;
we make a life by what we give.

2001:
The nationwide "Books Without Borders" 2001 challenge was a tremendous success, and schools across the country - from the biggest to the tiniest and most far flung - helped to collect childrens' books to fill a forty foot container donated by Kuehne and Nagel, logistics experts who responded to a simple request made by e-mail.

Volunteers from around the country turned out with utes, light aircraft, vans, cars and trucks to move the books towards Auckland where Kuehne and Nagel had warehouse space set aside for our use. It was an incredibly hectic period leading up to Christmas and the season of "peace on earth and goodwill" was expressed many times in the actions of all those who took part in the initial campaign.

2002:
In 2002 several classes in primary and secondary schools had grabbed hold of the project with both hands and Fiona was able to visit them and personally collect their contributions, joining in special assemblies and thanking the children for their social action. The record collection stands at 65 boxes!

"I once taught a young boy in Nigeria the English alphabet and that led to his being able to read. It was like a blind man who suddenly opened his eyes to the sun."
